On July 2nd 2012 the Olympic Torch passed through Rugby as part of its 70 day nationwide relay. Threatening skies greeted the onlookers but fortunately the rain stayed away until after the Torch had left the Borough.
The first Torch Bearer in Rugby was Tom Brennan a 46 year old from Welwyn Garden City who was nominated for his work with the ASA and teaching of swimming.
Tom was the second Tom Brennan to carry the torch in 7 days the other being a 23 year old in Sheffield.
The crowds of onlookers greeted the arrival of the convoy with unprecedented enthusiasm and it was a day that the town will not forget in a hurry.
