The Riders Branch of the Royal British Legion are holding a Christmas Present collection for the residents of Galanos House, the Royal British Legion Poppy Care Home at Southam.

As reported in the Rugby Advertiser on December 5th (page 13) the campaign has received the support of Mark Pawsey MP for Rugby. If anyone would like to contribute to our collection then please take your presents to The offices of Mr Pawsey before Midday on December 13th. The offices are in Albert Mews which is at the rear of Albert St by the John Barford Car Park.

What can you donate? The items that would be most useful are toiletries especially shampoo, hairspray, razors etc Either for men or women and with 90 residents in total I am sure you will supply something that is suitable for someone.

Galanos House is a 90 bed residential care home with 60 beds in the main home and a further 30 beds offering specialist Dementia Care. None of the residents are there because they want to be and are all are there because they are either ex service personnel or the family of ex service personnel. The home is one of six Poppy Care Homes run by the Royal British Legion and funded by the Poppy Appeal.

The Riders Branch are regular visitors to Galanos House and have a special rapport with the residents and staff and strongly deserve our support.

Can I help further? Yes you certainly can, the Riders Branch are helping the home with an ongoing collection to raise funds to provide tablet computers and cameras for the residents. If you can help with a donation then please contact me with your phone number by e-mail

Last weekend we held a collection at Southam Christmas Market and were overwhelmed by the support of the residents. It was not only the generosity but also the stories behind some of the donations, on more than one occasion I had a tear in my eye. The motorcycle and scooter communities also showed their support and to each and every person that donated THANK YOU.
